Composite Restoration

What is a composite restoration (filling)?

A composite restoration is used to fill cavities caused by dental decay. These direct filling materials are used to restore the biting surface of a tooth that has been damaged by decay or fracture. This tooth-colored material is stronger, longer lasting and more aesthetically pleasing to our patients.

Composed of porcelain and composite resin, these tooth-colored restorations bond directly to the tooth, strengthening it by restoring most of its original shape. In this way, these fillings allow us to be more conservative with our preparations, which requires less removal of health tooth structure. The restorations can be custom-colored to match your teeth to help give you the most natural-looking smile possible.

What can I expect?

You can expect some soreness after the appointment, often on the surrounding gums and sometimes in your jaw joint from staying open during the procedure. At your visit, we will be sure to inform you of any other symptoms you can expect that are specific to your tooth!
